These are spores from the Aztec God magic mushrooms. I could say that the myth is that Aztec God mushrooms where given directly from Mictlāntēcutli, the God of the underworld. But that would be a fib, as Psilocybe cubensis were introduced to the Americas when settlers brought their cattle. The exact background is not clear but they were a favoured strain, isolated for their strength. Future crosses were made using Aztec God magic mushrooms and these have gone on to be very popular.
